This seminar is an introduction to the endless variety of art created in and brought to the diverse and vibrant city of Chicago. Students will participate in an arts event each week during the course of the semester, followed by weekly discussions and presentations by visiting artists and academics. Students will engage the arts in various ways including participatory exercises. While selected readings, discussions and writing assignments accompany the course, the focus will be on the engagement of the arts experientially, followed by a critical and informed reflection on the significance of the arts as interpreters of urban culture.
