Step 2 - Application Procedure

The completed application packet consists of the following documents:

  1. Application: Please use the CS application form found directly on the CS website to ensure you have the most up-to-date version. You must submit an electronic and hard copy of your application.

    • Electronic Copy: Fill out the CS application within Microsoft Word. Save the application in this format: “Last Name, First Name – CS Application – Semester Attending.” Email the file as an attachment to Silvia Navarro at silvian@chicagosemester.org at the time you submit all application materials to your campus representative.

    • Hard Copy: After filling out the application in Microsoft Word, print a hard copy to obtain signatures and to submit to your campus representative with the other application components listed below.

  2. Two Letters of Recommendation: Please use the CS Letter of Recommendation form for your college found directly on the CS website. An electronic and hard copy must be submitted for each of your letters. Direct your references to download it directly from the CS website or attach it in an email to them.

    • Electronic Copy: Once completed, your references must email the letter to Silvia Navarro at silvian@chicagosemester.org.

    • Hard Copy: Once completed, your references must print a hard copy to sign and submit directly to your campus representative to be included with the other application components.

  3. Résumé: Please review our Résumé Resources section before starting. If you still have questions about writing your résumé, consult your career services office; they will be happy to help. Please do not use a template. Let your resume reflect who you are remembering that this is the first impression sites will have of you; present yourself as strongly as you can! Keep in mind that these will be sent to possible internship sites and schools to secure interviews for you.

    • General students must include 1 paper copy of your current résumé with your application and send an electronic copy separately to lesliel@chicagosemester.org when you submit your application. We will contact you with feedback, and then ask you to send us an updated résumé shortly before we contact sites. Updates should be sent electronically to the same email address and must be received by June 1 (fall) or October 1 (spring).

    • Student teachers must include 1 paper copy of your current résumé with your application and send an electronic copy separately to carolek@chicagosemester.org when you submit your application.

    • BSW students must include 1 paper copy of your current résumé with your application and send an electronic copy separately to nancyf@chicagosemester.org when you submit your application.

    • Nursing students must include 1 paper copy of your current résumé with your application and send an electronic copy separately to michellem@chicagosemester.org when you submit your application.

  4. Transcript: Include complete, official transcripts of your academic work. Please include them from all colleges attended. Please send an updated transcript to the CS office by June 1(fall) or October 1(spring).

  5. Application Fee: CS requires a non-refundable $40 application fee. Make checks payable to Chicago Semester. For Canadian students, please make your payment in U.S. funds.

  6. Photograph: Include a recent, 2x3" photo of yourself. Please no senior pictures or photos wearing sunglasses. Passport photos preferred. (Photos will be used to match faces with names during orientation week.)

Admittance to Program

CS will notify you in writing by May 1 (fall) or July 1 (spring), provided we receive the applications on time. CS will only process complete applications.

Enrollment Deposit

Within 30 days of the date of your acceptance, you must submit a non-refundable $225 enrollment deposit to reserve your place. The deposit will be applied to your public transit card for the semester and ticket fee for the fine art events. If you withdraw from the program after submitting the enrollment deposit, it cannot be refunded. If upon class registration you decide not to attend the fine art events, you will be refunded $125 once the semester begins. Payments may be made by check to Chicago Semester or cash.
